The currency is the Cabo Verde Escudo (ESC). You will get about 110 ESC
for 1 Euro (2004). The ESC is linked to the Euro. Euro's are accepted, even the coins but people prefer ESC and you will get a better deal on ESC.

Almost nowhere accepted. Only for renting a car it is possible to pay with your creditcard |

| Hospital |
For minor injuries (like if you need stitches) there is a small station in Santa Maria or a little
bigger one in Espargos. Most hotels have a hotelmedic. For serious problems you will have to go the Isle of Sao Vicente, but in that case you will be better of taking a flight home i guess. |

There is an excellent dentist in Espargos and in Santa Maria a dentist just started.

| Crime |
Cape Verdians are friendly, not violent people
but tourism is rising in this town, so just watch your personal stuff and don't leave anything of value in your room. You will feel safe in this country.

Be sure to wear your safety belt when you are in the car and don't park wrong.

| Internet |
There are 2 excellent internethshops in the centre of Santa Maria. You can't miss it
and the speed is reasonable. The best one, and the most cheap, is Sharks in front of the church. Internet will cost you about 4 Euro for 1 hour.
